Advancing Voluntary Blood Donation for Maternal and Child Health

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | 7 August 2026

On 7 August 2026, the Africa Initiative Development Foundation (AIDF Tanzania) held a strategic engagement with Dr. Delilah Charles Kimambo, Executive Director, Muhimbili National Hospital, to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration around voluntary blood donation and access to safe blood and blood components.

The engagement reaffirmed a shared commitment to addressing one of the critical needs within the health system: ensuring that safe and adequate blood is available for patients when and where it is needed—including mothers, newborns, children and other patients requiring transfusion care.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of sustained public awareness, community mobilization and voluntary blood donation in building a reliable culture of blood donation and strengthening the availability of safe blood for transfusion services.

For AIDF Tanzania, strengthening voluntary blood donation is not simply a health campaign. It is an investment in community resilience, equitable access to lifesaving care and the right to health.

The engagement further explored opportunities for continued collaboration with Muhimbili National Hospital , the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), and other strategic stakeholders to strengthen community-based blood donor mobilization and public education.

PARTNERSHIP FOR HEALTH IMPACT

This collaboration reflects the power of bringing together health institutions, civil society, communities and strategic partners around a shared public-health priority.

It contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being, while advancing the broader commitment to leave no one behind by supporting access to lifesaving health services for those who need them most.

Every blood donation has the potential to become a second chance at life.

AIDF Tanzania remains committed to building partnerships that transform community participation into sustainable health impact.

TOGETHER, WE CAN BUILD A STRONGER CULTURE OF VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION.

ONE DONOR. ONE DONATION. ONE LIFE SAVED.
