BEHIND EVERY UNIT, THERE IS A HUMAN STORY

BEHIND EVERY UNIT, THERE IS A HUMAN STORY 📰 Featured Story

A blood donation is measured in units.

Its value, however, is measured in possibility.

The more than 33 units of blood collected during BIG MAY CHARITY 2026 represented more than a successful community mobilisation effort. They became part of the national effort to support patients whose treatment, surgery, recovery or emergency care may depend on access to safe blood.

Every unit began with a person who made a decision:

to give something of themselves so that someone else could have another chance.

That is what makes voluntary blood donation more than a health intervention.

It is an expression of solidarity, citizenship and shared responsibility for one another.

For AIDF Tanzania, this is why community health work must go beyond campaigns. It must help build understanding, encourage participation and create a culture in which people recognise that their individual contribution can have meaning far beyond themselves.

At ORCI, that principle was visible in action.

Young people gave their time.
Volunteers gave their energy.
Health professionals gave their expertise.
Donors gave blood.
Partners gave their support.

Different contributions. One shared purpose.

And somewhere beyond the event, those contributions became part of another person's journey towards treatment and recovery.

That is the human meaning of giving.
