DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA — 30 SEPTEMBER 2026

The Africa Initiative Development Foundation (AIDF) joined civil society organisations, government representatives, development actors and other stakeholders at the 2026 Annual Forum of Non-Governmental Organisations — Dar es Salaam Region, held at Karimjee Conference Hall.

Held under the theme “Rethinking NGO Sustainability: Innovation, Partnerships and Access to Financial Resources through Domestic Sources,” the forum brought together stakeholders to examine the evolving role of civil society and the need for more resilient approaches to organisational sustainability.

The forum was honored by the presence of Hon. Dalmia Mikaya, District Commissioner of Kigamboni, representing the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, who addressed participants on the importance of strengthening collaboration between government, civil society and other development stakeholders.

In his remarks, Hon. Mikaya underscored the importance of constructive engagement and collective responsibility in advancing development priorities and strengthening the contribution of non-governmental organisations within communities.

For AIDF, the forum provided an important platform to contribute to a broader conversation on the future of Tanzania’s civil society sector — particularly the need to strengthen institutional resilience, diversify resource mobilisation, deepen strategic partnerships and demonstrate measurable public value.

The discussions reflected an increasingly important shift: sustainability is not only about securing the next grant. It is also about building institutions that can mobilise people, knowledge, partnerships, domestic resources and innovation around clearly defined development priorities.

AIDF remains committed to contributing to constructive national and regional dialogue that strengthens the capacity, credibility and long-term impact of civil society organisations in Tanzania.
